A Macon woman, who allegedly had been shoplifting clothes, ran over her 4-year-old son in the parking lot of a mall, according to an online report.
The Telegraph website said Arkebia Albury faces multiple charges. Her son is in critical condition with injuries to his head and internal organs.
“The child is in bad shape,” Centerville Police Chief Sidney Andrews told the newspaper Friday morning. Police told the newspaper a Belk loss prevention officer followed the woman and her two children to the Centerville Galleria parking lot as they headed toward her car.
When the officer told her to stop, the woman allegedly pulled off in her 2001 Toyota Camry, but only the younger child, about 2, had made it into the passenger side, Andrews said.
The woman then got out, and, ignoring the officer’s pleas to leave the child where he was until an ambulance arrived, picks him up and leaves, police said.
“She picks the little boy up and throws him in the car and drives off,” Andrews said.
