Cops: Man drives on a suspended license, ends up in Lake Lanier
A 56-year-old Braselton man who lost control of his van and ended up in Lake Lanier Monday was driving on a suspended license, according to Channel 2 Action News.
The driver, identified by the television station as Johnnie Jackson, lost control of the blue Dodge Caravan on McEver Road in Hall County.
Boater Lorne McCaslin was in the water at the time. He didn’t see the van go in the water, but heard it. McCaslin told Channel 2 he turned his boat around and called 911.
“Can you get over here?” McCaslin asked Jackson. “He said, ‘No, I think my back’s [broken].’”
Jackson crawled onto the roof and stayed there until Hall fire officials rescued him, Channel 2 reported.
He was taken to a local hospital for observation, but he’s expected to be OK.
He faces multiple charges, including failure to maintain lane, driving on a suspended license and no proof of insurance, according to Channel 2.
Four hours after the van went in the water, a tow truck pulled it out the water.
“He said he blacked out,” McCaslin said.
