McKnight, of Paulding County, was 19 when he lost control of a Lexus on C.H. James Parkway near Garrett Road on the night of July 17, according to an arrest warrant.
The Lexus crashed into another vehicle.
McKnight's friend DeAndre Johnson, 20, of Douglasville, died in the back seat of the Lexus, police said.
The front-seat passenger, Clarece Nunnally, now must get around with a walker because of her fractured pelvis and ribs, according to the warrant.
Nunnally, 19 at the time of the crash, lost teeth and has a plate in her mouth so doctors can reconstruct her jaw.
As for those in the other vehicle: a man, woman and their three children were hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.
McKnight tested positive for cocaine and marijuana after the crash, police said.
An officer found marijuana on the driver seat, the warrant said.
McKnight remains in jail with a bond of $55,220.
