Cobb County police are investigating an overnight shooting that led them to three scenes: a Waffle House on Sandy Plains Road near Post Oak Tritt Road, a nearby McDonald’s and the injured man’s home.

When officers got to the Waffle House, they were unable to locate the man they later learned had been shot in the arm, Cobb police Sgt. Dana Pierce said in an emailed statement.

That’s because a woman was driving him to the hospital at the time, police said. That woman stopped an ambulance on its way to the Waffle House, Pierce said.

The injured man was taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

At the hospital, the injured man told police he noticed blood in the parking lot of a nearby McDonald’s restaurant on Sandy Plains Road. Police also found shell casings in the roadway in front of the man’s home.

Investigators are still trying to figure out who shot the man and why he was shot, Pierce said.

While the investigation originally led officers to the Waffle House, “we’re pretty confident this didn’t happen at Waffle House,” company spokesman Pat Warner said.

No other details were released.
