A former Cobb County school bus driver and church youth group volunteer has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for producing, receiving and possessing child pornography.
Stanley Keith Johnson, 57, of Mableton will be required after his release from prison to spend the rest of his life on supervised release. He pleaded guilty to the charges April 26.
Johnson “had access to some of the most innocent and vulnerable members of society,” U.S. Attorney Sally Quillian Yates said Monday.
“He downloaded child pornography and took explicit photographs of a fatherless young boy he was trusted to mentor,” she said. “Children are not sexual objects, and persons who see them that way can expect to be caught and go to prison.”
Yates said Johnson, between November 2010 and April 2011, placed orders with a foreign company for about 180 DVDs showing nude boys, ages 8 and 14.
In a search of his home in December 2012, authorities also found child pornography on his home computer, Yates said.
A forensics examination of the computer showed that he had produced images of child pornography as early as May 2004.
One victim was an 8-year-old whom Johnson befriended at his church, where he volunteered to work with the youth group and especially with young boys with no fathers in their lives, prosecutors said.
The Cobb County school system fired Johnson as a bus driver and bus driver supervisor after the search of his home. After his firing, the school system found that he had downloaded images of child pornography on his government computer.
He also used his work computer to check on the delivery status of the child pornography videos that he had ordered, prosecutors said.
The case was investigated by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, the GBI and the Cobb County Police Department.
