Henry County police say two men pointed a gun and fired a shot at a woman and her child while they ransacked her home looking for money.
The victim, who asked to remain anonymous, told Channel 2 Action News she was sleeping when she and her child woke up to a man aiming a gun at her head in the middle of the night. Her other children, a boy, 7, and a girl, 14, hid in a closet during the invasion.
One of the gunmen fired a shot near the woman’s head and asked, “Where’s the money? Where’s the guns? We’re going to shoot you,” the mother told the news station.
“They grabbed my purse, took what I had in my purse and asked about car keys,” she said. “I couldn’t cough up something that I didn’t have.”
The men left with her car keys, a cell phone and money, but the mother was more concerned about her kids than anything.
“I said, ‘Please don’t bother my kids leave my kids out of this.’”
The gunmen went upstairs, kicked the children’s room door open looking for them, but didn’t find them, Channel 2 reported. The kids, still in the closet, were on the phone with 911. The recording was not immediately available.
The gunmen left the house and ditched their car – a 2016 Dodge Challenger – at a neighbor’s house, Channel 2 reported. The men were hiding in the man’s fir tree. They ditched a backpack and three guns in his yard.
The family told Channel 2 they don’t know why they were targeted and have lived in the neighborhood for two years.
Police believe surveillance footage of 2016 Dodge Challenger at a nearby gas station may lead them to the alleged gunmen.
Police said they are hoping DNA will be on clothes left at the house.
