An 11-year-old was taken to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston late Thursday night with a gunshot wound to the leg, Atlanta police said.

The child was alert, conscious and breathing, Officer Stephanie Brown said. The shooting happened about 9:20 p.m. in the 1700 block of Richmond Circle in the southeast part of the city.

No other details were released.
