A Minnesota man who moved to Cobb County two years after he was released from prison is headed back after he failed to register as a sex offender, federal officials said.

Frederick Laron Summerset, 34, was convicted in November 2011 of committing a sex offense against a child, U.S. Attorney John Horn said in a news release.

Summerset was required to register as a sex offender as part of his sentence, and he did when he got out of prison in 2014.

But when he moved to Georgia at the beginning of 2016, Summerset did not register with the Cobb sheriff’s office because “he suspected Minnesota had a warrant for his arrest,” Horn said.

“Many parents want to know when a sex offender moves into their area,” Beverly Harvard, U.S. Marshal for the Northern District of Georgia, said in a release. “When a convicted sex offender does not register their address, it denies the community their right to know. Also it hinders law enforcement’s ability to ensure that the sex offender is not in violation of other provisions of the Sex Offender Act.”

Summerset pleaded guilty and was convicted April 19. He was sentenced to two years in prison followed by five years of supervised release.
