No criminal charges are planned in connection with an incident that started a fire at a Sandy Springs gun range, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Gun range catches fire in Sandy Springs

military-style round accidentally fired Sunday by a customer at the Sandy Springs Gun Club and Range on Roswell Road likely started the blaze, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

The building was moderately damaged, police said, and no injuries were reported.

“It’s actually against regulations,” Sandy Springs Fire Rescue inspector-investigator Jesse Bernard said. “The gentleman that fired it didn’t realize it was within his magazine, and he notified them as soon as he realized he had fired it.”

It is not certain when the range will reopen. Until that happens, customers have been directed to use the "sister location" in Norcross, according to the Sandy Springs range's Facebook page.

Crews worked Monday to repair damage, which was primarily in the building’s ventilation system, Channel 2 reported.

“It was a loss, but we know that they took care of the people safely, so we’ll be able to come back, and it will probably be even better than when we were last here,” customer John Ellison said.
