As a new report of creepy clown sightings emerges, authorities in west Georgia said they have arrested two people who allegedly made false clown reports.
The Troup County Sheriff’s Office said Brandon Jerome Moody, 26, of LaGrange, and Rebecca Moody, 27, of Valley, Ala., have been charged with obstruction and unlawful conduct during a 911 call.
In one call, Brandon Moody told investigators he saw clowns around a white van, Troup sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Stewart Smith said. In another, Rebecca Moody made a similar report, the sheriff’s office said.
This summer, there have been multiple creepy clown sightings in the Carolinas, Wisconsin and other Georgia cities. Reports of the menacing clowns trying to lure children to wooded areas have prompted warnings from police, who haven't always been able to verify the sightings.
In Troup, investigators spoke with Brandon and Rebecca Moody and also listened to their 911 recordings, Smith said.
“Moody stated he did not see any clowns … and had just made it up and that he was aware of all the complaints about clowns and the schools being on lockdown,” Smith said.
Brandon and Rebecca Moody, whose relationship was unknown, were arrested.
Meanwhile, the Athens Banner-Herald reported that five people dressed as clowns and wearing masks emerged from a van Monday and began chasing several children. The incident happened as the children were leaving the East Athens Community Center, according to the report.
