A man was shot and killed Friday morning in the front yard of his west Gwinnett County home.

Officers responded to the 1400 block of Silver Lake Drive around 5 a.m. after a neighbor heard gunshots and looked outside the window to see a man lying in the yard. They arrived within 6 minutes of the initial call, but the man was already dead, Gwinnett police spokesman Cpl. Wilbert Rundles told AJC.com.

While his name is not being released until his family is notified, the victim is 38 years old and originally from Mexico, Rundles said. He was renting a room at a home in the neighborhood, which is located off Singleton Road outside Norcross.

The man worked in construction and was known to keep odd hours while on various jobs.

“The fact of him coming home at that time, or leaving at that time, wasn’t out of the norm and wasn’t anything abnormal to the people that live there,” Rundles said.

The case is considered a homicide, according to police. Investigators were working Friday morning to determine how many shots were fired and to interview witnesses.

A motive has not been determined.
