A Henry County man accused of shooting and killing his father Wednesday night was in court Thursday morning.
John Wesley Morgan, Jr. appeared before a Henry County magistrate who denied him bond and set a preliminary hearing – or probable cause hearing – for late June, according to court officials.
Morgancalled authorities Wednesday to report that he’d shot his 79-year-old father, John Wesley Morgan, Sr., Henry police said. The shooting happened around 3:30 p.m. at the Morgan Auto Parts store on Ga. Highway 138 near Stockbridge, police said.
The younger Morgan was charged with murder and booked into the Henry County Jail just before 10 p.m., after a lengthy interview with police, according to jail records and Channel 2 Action News.
The older Morgan had owned the business for decades, and police said they had responded to previous reports of gunfire at the location.
Morgan’s next hearing is 2 p.m. on June 20, according to court officials.
