A body found Tuesday inside a vacant Atlanta apartment had “likely been there for several months,” police said.

Atlanta police spokeswoman Elizabeth Espy said the remains were discovered in an apartment at 176 Troy St., just south of Joseph E. Boone Boulevard near the city’s Washington Park neighborhood. The body was “in an advanced state of decomposition.”

“The identity, race, sex, and age of the remains are not known at this time,” Espy said in an email. “There were no obvious signs of foul play.”

No further information was provided.
