A man shot while riding in a taxicab after leaving an Atlanta strip club was identified Friday by Atlanta police.

Michael Verseal, who suffered a wound to the back, was listed in stable condition at Grady Memorial Hospital, according to police spokesman Ralph Woolfolk. His condition had been listed as critical.

Verseal was in the backseat of a taxi on Windsor Street, near the I-20 ramp, when a black Infiniti pulled up next to the taxi and opened fire, Channel 2 Action News reported. The Infiniti drove away and was last seen heading east on I-20.

The cab driver, who was not injured, told police he had picked the passenger up at Magic City, an adult entertainment club on Forsyth Street. Investigators said the passenger may have had an altercation with the gunman at the club.

The police spokesman did not provide any additional information Friday beyond the identification of the victim and his medical condition.

A person answering the phone at Magic City said the club was looking into whether there was an altercation but declined to comment further.
