Kasheia Johnson, 33, of Atlanta, was charged after the infant was found dead in a northwest Atlanta home in May.

Police received a call at 11:18 a.m. May 10 reporting a dead person at an apartment off Gun Club Road, AJC.com previously reported. Officers arrived at the scene 16 minutes later, according to Atlanta police records.

The baby was found dead inside the apartment, according to an Atlanta police incident report. It’s unclear how the child died. The body was taken to the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.

Johnson was initially charged with making false statements, according to the police report. That charge was upgraded after an investigation, according to Atlanta police spokesman Officer Steve Avery. No other charges are anticipated, Avery said.

Johnson was booked into the Fulton County Jail on May 12 and released on a $5,000 bond three days later.

The case remains under investigation, police said.
