An Athens bar owner pleaded not guilty to rape and kidnapping charges during his arraignment Monday, according to a spokeswoman for Clarke County Superior Court.
David Ellis Ippisch, 38, is accused of sexually assaulting a 21-year-old woman at Hedges on Broad, one of two downtown bars he previously operated. He was arrested Nov. 25 after the woman reported the incident to police.
Last month, Ippisch was indicted by a grand jury. He was denied bond in December and remained Monday in the Clarke jail.
In addition to Hedges, Ippisch also owns 100 Proof. Both bars are located on East Broad Street. The phone number listed for the bars has been disconnected.
A status hearing on the case is scheduled for May 1, court records show.
