A Clarke County grand jury this week indicted an Athens bar owner on rape and kidnapping charges.

David Ellis Ippisch, 38, is accused of sexually assaulting a 21-year-old woman at Hedges on Broad, one of two downtown bars he operates. He was arrested Nov. 25 after the woman reported the incident to police.

Ippisch's request for bond was denied in December. Superior Court Judge Eric Norris wrote that Ippisch was likely to commit a felony and posed a risk to the community in denying bond.

In addition to Hedges, Ippisch also owns the 100 Proof bar, also located on East Broad Street. The phone number listed for the bars has been disconnected.

Ippisch remained Friday in the Clarke County jail. His arraignment is scheduled for March 2.

The alleged attack happened Saturday night at Hedges, near the University of Georgia campus.
