A paid helper has been arrested in connection with the killing last week of a 92-year-old East Point man.
Julius Dewberry was found dead on Feb. 12 inside his home in the 800 block of Jefferson Avenue.
Tuesday, police charged Christopher Roberts, 35, with murder.
Authorities said Dewberry was strangled to death.
“We believe the motive was robbery,” East Point Police spokesman Lt. Cliff Chandler told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Roberts also was charged with burglary, robbery and theft by taking and is currently being held at East Point’s municipal jail.
“Mr. Roberts did odd jobs for the victim,” Chandler said. “We believe that’s what led him to Mr. Dewberry.”
Police investigators with East Point’s warrants division tracked Roberts down to a Hapeville hotel on Monday, and interviewed him late Monday and on Tuesday before he was charged, Chandler said.
No bond has been announced for Roberts. He will be transferred to the Fulton County jail either late Tuesday night or sometime Wednesday, where he will have his first hearing before a Fulton County Magistrate judge.
