Of eight people charged with beating a 14-year-old so badly he had to be hospitalized, only one was an adult, according to a media report.

Clinton Heard III and seven juveniles between 12 and 16 years old were arrested Friday and charged with simple battery and participating in criminal street gang activity, Bibb County sheriff’s Lt. Randy Gonzalez told the Macon Telegraph Monday afternoon.

The alleged brawl took place Sept. 30 near Ballard-Hudson Middle School, after the boy said he didn’t want to join a gang, the newspaper reported.

Four of the unnamed juveniles were taken to the Macon Regional Youth Detention Center and the other three were allowed to stay with their parents. All seven will appear in juvenile court, Gonzalez said.

Gonzalez said the group was affiliated with the Gangster Disciples street gang.
