A $500,000 cash-only bond was set for the man accused of shooting a 2-year-old last week outside a DeKalb County supermarket.

A DeKalb County Magistrate Judge set the cash-only bond for Chazerel J. Burton in his first appearance early Thursday morning, Channel 2 Action News reports.

Burton is charged with three counts of felony aggravated assaulted and one count of second-degree criminal damage, according to jail records.

According to police, Burton shot into a car where the 2-year-old Evan Harrison was sitting. The shooting happened after the child’s father tried to stop 21-year-old Burton from robbing someone outside the Kroger on Hairston Road in Stone Mountain.

Evan was shot in the abdomen and remains on a ventilator at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston, authorities said.

Authorities said Burton turned himself into police after a week-long search and a $7,000 reward was offered for his arrest.

He was booked into the DeKalb County Jail on Wednesday. Burton’s next court appearance is July 25 at 2 p.m.
