A stolen iPhone led Douglas County authorities right to three teenagers accused of robbing a Lithia Springs gas station before punching a woman in the parking lot.
Douglas County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Lt. Glenn Daniel said three males — later identified as 18-year-old Antonio Smith, 18-year-old Michael Voltarie and 16-year-old Shannon Williams — entered the Shell station at 6990 South Sweetwater Road at about 10:30 p.m. Friday. The suspects displayed a handgun and took an undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes, Daniel said.
While leaving the gas station, one of the teens allegedly approached a vehicle, opened the passenger side door and punched the female driver in the face. The teen, believed to be Williams, then took the victim’s purse and iPhone, Daniel said.
Authorities tracked the victim’s iPhone to the area of Six Flags Road in Austell, where Cobb County police initiated a traffic stop.
At the time of the stop, Daniel said, one of the suspects was holding the victim’s driver’s license, another was holding “several credit cards” in the victim’s name, and another was holding the stolen iPhone.
Smith, Voltarie and Williams were all arrested and charged with armed robbery-commercial, armed robbery-person to person and aggravated assault. Williams, the 16-year-old, is being charged as an adult, Daniel said.
