A man was injured Saturday night when members of two semipro football teams started shooting at each other after a game at a Gwinnett County park, police said.

Dozens of people were screaming and running away from Gary Pirkle Park in Sugar Hill when police arrived at the scene, according to an incident report. The game was canceled after the teams got into a brawl in the middle of the field, Gwinnett police spokesman Cpl. Collin Flynn said.

Shortly after, gunshots rang out between the parking lot and bathroom, Flynn said. Witnesses said members of both teams took out guns and started shooting at each other, the incident report said.

The injured man told police he was hit while trying to crawl away from the gunfire, according to the police report. He was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

According to investigators, more than a hundred people were present when the gunfire started and multiple people fired shots. Most cleared out before police arrived at the scene, Flynn said.

“Investigators believe there are many people with information on this case,” he said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Gwinnett police department.
