A Cobb County man has been charged with murder in the shooting death of his wife, police said.

The shooting happened about 8:30 a.m. Sunday at the couple’s home on Bishop Lake Road near Marietta.

Cobb police Sgt. Dana Pierce said David Rex York Jr. called 911 to report that his wife had been shot, and when officers arrived, they found 66-year-old Lynn York dead from apparent gunshot wounds.

Pierce said David York, 67, is being held without bond in the Cobb County Adult Detention Center, charged with murder and aggravated assault.

Police have not released a motive for the shooting.

Channel 2 Action News reported that the couple had been married for 30 years, and had lived in the upscale East Hampton neighborhood for much of that time.

“I never in my wildest imagination would think something like this would happen,” neighbor David Powers told Channel 2. “We waved at each other every day, talked about our dogs. Just sweet people.”
