A major DeKalb County roadway has reopened after being shut down for nearly two hours Friday morning as police investigated a suspicious package.

The bomb squad was called to the scene about 6:15 a.m. after a suspicious backpack was found near the front gate to the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Clifton Road, according to DeKalb police Capt. S.R. Fore.

“The package has been x-rayed and it has been determined not to be a threat.”

Clifton Road between Houston Mill and Old Briarcliff roads was reopened to traffic just before 8 a.m. Check traffic here.
