A north Georgia man has been charged in the collision that killed a Gwinnett County motorcyclist last week.

Ringgold resident John Paul Hartley was arrested Monday and charged with misdemeanor vehicular homicide and unsafe U-turn. Gwinnett County jail records showed he was released several hours later on $5,000 bond.

The charges against Hartley stem from the April 27 crash that left 25-year-old Suwanee resident Patrick Wood dead.

Gwinnett County police believe Wood was traveling north on McGinnis Ferry Road that day when Hartley and his Chevrolet Silverado pulled in front of him while trying to complete a U-turn at the intersection with Old Peachtree Road. Wood was not able to stop in time and was ejected from the motorcycle, police said.

Wood later died at the hospital.

Speed and alcohol were not believed to be factors in the crash.
