A 92-year-old pedestrian was killed Thursday in a crash in Gainesville.

Bernice Thurmond was crossing Limestone Parkway near Lighthouse Manor Drive when a southbound Honda Ridgeline hit her, according to authorities.

“I believe she went shopping nearby and was walking back to her residence,” Gainesville police spokeswoman Cpl. Jessica Van told AJC.com. “There doesn’t appear to be any crosswalks in the area.”

The driver of the pickup truck remained on scene and immediately reported the incident to 911. First responders got to the crash site about 6:30 p.m. and rendered aid, but Thurmond was pronounced dead at the scene, Van said.

No charges are expected to be filed against the driver, according to police.
