For about three hours, all southbound lanes of the Downtown Connector were shut down due to a deadly crash Monday, authorities said.

Just before 6 p.m., the driver of a Dodge pickup truck lost control and struck a silver Mercedes-Benz sedan, according to the Georgia State Patrol. The Mercedes then hit a concrete wall, entrapping two people inside the wrecked vehicle.

The front-seat passenger, 27-year-old Stevie L. Bryant, later died at Grady Memorial Hospital, the GSP said. The two drivers suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The incident, which took place near Fulton Street and I-20, shut down the interstate until about 9 p.m., according to Georgia Department of Transportation cameras.

At one point, backups stretched to Grady Memorial Hospital, the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center reported.

Charges are pending, the GSP said. The specific charges and the names of the two drivers were not provided.
