How absorbed have you become in Facebook lately?

A Dallas, Texas, woman was so preoccupied by Facebook that she allegedly let her best friend’s 3-year-old daughter drown in a pool at an apartment complex, according to a report in the Dallas Morning News.

Kariasa Thomas, 37, was charged with reckless injury to a child in the death of the girl, Kanyce Giddings, who drowned on June 22.

The Dallas Morning News reported that Thomas was watching her friend’s four children, 7, 6, 5, and Kanyce, 3, at an apartment complex where the pool had closed for the evening but people were still in the pool.

She reportedly let the children get in the water despite the pool being closed, and told the 3-year-old to sit on the edge. Thomas told police she then used her phone to log on to Facebook, according to the news report.

Later when an off-duty police officer who was working security at the complex, asked them to leave, Thomas could not locate the 3-year-old. According to the news report, she kicked the child’s lifeless body while searching for her in the pool.
