A pedestrian died after a car hit him as he crossed a busy highway, according to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.

Donald Beacham, 64, of Acworth, was in the crosswalk at the intersection of Ga. 92 and Robin Road in Acworth about 9:30 a.m. Saturday, sheriff’s spokesman Capt. Jay Baker said Monday in a news release. He was crossing the highway from Woodstock Furniture Outlet when a driver tried to make a left turn and hit him.

The driver, 63-year-old Kevin Orr of Acworth, stayed at the scene of the crash, Baker said.

Beacham was taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital with serious injuries. He died Sunday morning.

Authorities are still investigating the death.

Investigators don’t believe that speed or impairment contributed to the wreck, Baker said. No charges have been filed at this time.
