Two Peach County deputies were shot responding to a domestic call Sunday evening, one fatally , according to news reports.

The Macon Telegraph reported that the incident happened in Byron, around 5:45 p.m., when two deputies responded to a dispute between neighbors. A man on Hardison Road in Peach County threatened a neighbor who called 911. Two deputies responding to the call pulled into the driveway of the suspect's house when they were ambushed by the suspect, according to J.T. Ricketson, special agent in charge of the Perry office of the GBI.

Ricketson said other law enforcement units were then summoned, and exchanged gunfire with the suspect, who was injured, arrested, and taken to a local hospital.

Byron is about 16 miles south of Macon and 93 miles south of Atlanta on Interstate 75.

One deputy was taken to the Medical Center, Navicent Health, and the other to the Medical Center of Peach County, according to the Telegraph.
