Crews have reopened a major road in Atlanta’s Poncey-Highland neighborhood after a broken gas line caused it to be shut down Tuesday afternoon.

The leak was reported along Ponce de Leon Avenue near Linwood Avenue, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center. First responders were sent to the 900 block to repair the broken gas main, Atlanta Gas Light spokeswoman Mekka Parish said.

“The gas main was damaged by a contractor boring while installing pipe for a fiber project unrelated to Atlanta Gas Light,” Parish said.

Traffic on Ponce de Leon Avenue was temporarily diverted away from the leak, and drivers in the area were turned around at Highland Avenue, according to Georgia Department of Transportation cameras.

The roadway reopened about 5:20 p.m.
