A residential care facility in Loganville was destroyed after a fire started outside and tore through the building Sunday afternoon, authorities said.

Loganville fire investigators determined that the fire started in an outside patio area at the rear of the facility on Hodges Street, according to a news release. When crews arrived about 3 p.m., all nine residents and two caregivers had already made it out safely.

The director of the facility, which offers personalized service to a small group of adults, made arrangements to relocate the residents, the release said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
