A fire damaged a Gwinnett County hotel Monday night, officials said.

Firefighters responded around 9:05 p.m. to a report of a fire at the Knights Inn Hotel in the 5100 block of Brook Hollow Parkway in Norcross, Gwinnett fire Capt. Tommy Rutlegde said.

“Crews arrived to find heavy flames showing from two units of a single-story hotel building,” he said. “Occupants were already in the process of evacuation when fire trucks arrived and no injuries were reported.”

The fire, which has been ruled accidental, caused heavy damage to two units and moderate damage to a third unit, Rutledge said.

“The blaze appears to have started in a unit that was not occupied and was not being rented at the time,” he said. “The fire is believed to be electrical in nature and originated from a floor mounted HVAC system.”

The fire occurred near the same area where a water main broke early Tuesday, causing a massive hole to open and blocking a busy Gwinnett artery.

Indian Trail Road between Beaver Ruin Road and I-85 could be closed for at least the rest of the day.

Authorities said there is no correlation between the fire and the water main break.
