Crews are still working to put out hot spots Monday morning hours after a fire ripped through a Taco Bell in south Fulton County.

A passerby reported seeing black smoke coming from the restaurant on Camp Creek Parkway about 4:30 a.m., an East Point fire spokeswoman said. The restaurant had closed for the night at 3 a.m.

Smoke was seen pouring from the dining area, the roof and the drive-thru window, Channel 2 Action News reported. The blaze also sent heavy smoke over the nearby Camp Creek Marketplace shopping center and I-285.

While the flames were under control quickly, crews were still working to douse hot spots at 8:30 a.m. The cause of the fire is under investigation, spokeswoman Renita Shelton said.

“The structure was unoccupied at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported to civilians or firefighters,” she said in a news release.

The extent of the damage to the popular fast-food restaurant is unknown.
