Dacula councilman accused of theft

March 8, 2014

A Dacula councilman is accused of using his city-issued credit card to spend at least $3,600 for personal use.

Gregory Alan Reeves, 43, of Dacula, was arrested Friday afternoon and charged with theft by taking, according to Gwinnett County jail records. His bond was posted at $11,200.

District Attorney Danny Porter told Channel 2 Action News that Reeves allegedly spent the money on a variety of personals items, including renting a car he used for his job as a pizza delivery man.

Reeves has served on the Dacula City Council since 2006. The city posted a statement regarding the arrest on its website.

"There is an ongoing investigation conducted by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and Gwinnett County District Attorney's Office," the statement said. "Pending a complete investigation, the City will be making no official comment at this time."

Reeves remained in jail late Friday.

In 1999, Reeves resigned from his job as a dispatcher for the Chamblee Police Department after being accused of stealing more than $2,000 in bond money, Chief Marc Johnson said Friday night.

"Due to bond monies missing and all physical evidence leading to it being me, I take full responsibility," Reeves wrote in his resignation letter, obtained by Channel 2. "Please deduct all monies from my final check to cover the missing monies."

Reeves did not face charges for the alleged theft in Chamblee.
