A Cobb County sixth grade student was suspended from school after taking two eight-inch knives with him to the bus stop, Channel 2 Action News reported.
The boy’s mother told the news station he took the weapons to “hurt the other child” who had attacked him on the bus.
Jamelia Sistrunk said her son is serving a 10-day suspension from Floyd Middle School after the incident, the news station reported.
She told Channel 2 that the principal called her Wednesday and told her about the knives. That’s when she learned that her son had been attacked on the bus the previous day.
“He didn’t know the boy was going to punch him five times in the head,” Sistrunk said.
Sistrunk said her son packed the knives because “he said he was going to try to hurt the other child that hurt him on the bus the day before.” Other children took the knives away from the boy, she told Channel 2.
“My son could’ve killed himself,” she said. “Other kids could’ve been injured or hurt.”
Sistrunk said her son doesn’t feel safe at school and doesn’t want to go back.
In a statement, the Cobb County School District said it can’t speak to specific situations involving students.
“However, we endeavor to partner with parents to meet the needs of our students each and every day, and safety is always our top priority,” the statement said.
Sistrunk said the principal told her that the bus driver and the child accused of attacking her son will be disciplined.
