A boil water advisory has ended Wednesday for several Southside communities, two days after a power outage at a southwest Atlanta pumping station prompted testing.

Power was out at the Adamsville Pump Station for a little over an hour Monday night before the system was restored to normal operations about 8:30 p.m., according to the Atlanta Department of Watershed Management. An advisory was issued for those serviced by the station, which includes areas in the cities of South Fulton, Union City and Fairburn as well as a portion of southwest Atlanta.

About 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, the boil water advisory was lifted everywhere except one area off Hutcheson Ferry Road near Palmetto. The watershed department lifted the advisory for all affected areas Wednesday morning after sampling found there was no contamination of the public water system, officials said in a news release.

During the advisory, residents were encouraged to boil all water for one minute past a rolling boil prior to using it for cooking, preparing food or brushing teeth. Officials advised against drinking water from public water fountains in the impacted area.

“Sampling has confirmed there was no contamination of the public water system,” officials said Wednesday. “Water may be used for all purposes without boiling. The Georgia Environmental Protection Division has been notified.”
