A 2-year-old boy in Charlotte, North Carolina, is the victim of a homicide, according to multiple media outlets, citing the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

The incident happened in the 5300 block of Reagan Drive shortly after 10 p.m. Saturday, WBTV reported.

The boy had an apparent gunshot wound when police arrived, WBTV reported, and the child was pronounced dead later at the hospital.

Police recovered a firearm with the help of the Canine Unit, according to WBTV. Police interviewed family members who were there when the child was shot.

Detectives from the Homicide and Crimes Against Children Unit are investigating, according to reporter Marvin Beach.

Police told WBTV they are not looking for any additional suspects.
