Henry County residents appeared to back a new TSPLOST to improve roads while also making decisions on mayors and councilmembers of the south metro community’s cities.

The TSPLOST, which will raise about $245 million over five years, received about 55% of the vote in Tuesday’s elections. Residents will pay an extra penny in sales tax for infrastructure improvements to help metro Atlanta area’s second-fastest growing community keep pace with its residential boom.

In Stockbridge, Mayor Anthony Ford was reelected as were incumbent City Councilmembers LaKeisha Gantt and Alphonso Thomas, who received the most ballots cast in a five-person race for two slots on the governing body.

Ann Tarpley appeared to win the Hampton mayor’s race with a narrow victory of Stephanie Bodie in unofficial results. Tarpley had 660 votes to Bodie’s 616.

Devlin Cleveland, Sheila Barlow and Willie Turner, an incumbent, appeared to have the most votes for the three seats in contention for the Hampton City Council. Another Hampton incumbent, Errol Mitchell, appeared to have lost his seat on the council.

In McDonough, Sandra Vincent won the mayor’s race with about 52% of the vote, while McDonough District 1 City Councilman Rufus Stewart retained his seat. A. Scott Reeves and Vanessa Thomas will be McDonough’s District 3 and At-Large councilmembers as a result of Tuesday’s vote.
