An Augusta woman recently was charged in the April drowning deaths of two men at Clarks Hill Lake, according to a news release.

Shontover Kirkland, 32, was charged Sept. 10 with one count of reckless conduct and two counts of involuntary manslaughter for the drowning deaths of Eynn Wilson and Edward Kirk Jr., according to the GBI and Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.

Wilson, 34, and Kirk, 37, drowned April 25 at Clarks Hill Lake in Lincoln County. The official cause of death was reported in May by WRDW and WAGT, citing the Lincoln County coroner.

One of the two friends fell in the water, and the other jumped in, according to the TV stations.

Neither resurfaced, and the search continued for nearly a week until their bodies were found hours apart May 1, WRDW and WAGT reported.

Kirkland is being held at the Lincoln County Jail, according to the news release.
