Two suspects believed to be part of Craiglist theft ring tried to pull off another heist Friday afternoon, according to Clayton County police. But this time, officers were waiting for them.

The investigation began when a man posted a Kawasaki dirt bike for sale on Craigslist and set up a meeting with a potential buyer, according to Officer Eddie Soto. On Tuesday, the two met at Flat Shoals Park in Riverdale so the “interested” buyer, a 16-year-old, could drive the bike, Soto said.

“The juvenile suspect test drove the dirt bike around the parking lot, and suddenly left the location stealing the dirt bike,” Soto said in an emailed statement.

The victim then advertised a four-wheeler for sale on Craigslist, using different contact information, and again set up a meeting with a potential buyer, police said. The seller also contacted police.

When two alleged buyers arrived to see the four-wheeler, the two arrived on the previously stolen dirt bike, Soto said. Martevious Keunte Grimes, 22, was allegedly riding on the back of the dirt bike, and the 16-year-old juvenile suspect was driving the bike, police said.

Officers were able to take both suspects into custody, Soto said.

“The juvenile suspect confessed to stealing (the victim’s) dirt bike, and both suspects confessed that they showed up for the purpose of stealing the advertised four-wheeler,” Soto said.

Grimes was charged with theft by receiving stolen property, contributing to delinquency of a minor and theft by taking, Clayton County jail records showed.
