A 50-year-old Acworth man was struck and killed early Saturday in an accident along Mars Hill Road near Cobb Parkway.
James Underwood parked his Ford F-150, which was pulling a cargo trailer, in an area between northbound and southbound lanes and got out to put some signs along the side of the road, said Officer Mike Bowman with the Cobb County Police Department.
About 12:40 a.m., a southbound Chevrolet Silverado veered out of its lane and slammed into the pickup truck.
Underwood, who was standing near his pickup, was hit by one of the two vehicles and knocked to the ground, Bowman said.
Underwood was taken by ambulance to WellStar Kennestone Hospital. He was pronounced dead as a result of his injuries.
The driver of the Silverado, 48-year-old Kenneth Chitwood of Acworth, was not injured in the accident, Bowman said. He was arrested on multiple charges, including driving under the influence of alcohol, failure to maintain lane and first-degree homicide by vehicle.
Chitwood was being held at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center without bond.
