Buc-ee’s, a chain of 54 stores spread across 11 states, was founded in Texas. Its first location, an ordinary-size convenience store, opened along the Gulf Coast south of Houston in 1982.

Buc-ee’s more modern travel superstores range in size from about 50,000 to 75,000 square feet with more than 100 gas pumps. Most are situated along interstates. They never close.

Though the stores may look similar to truck stops, akin to Flying J’s or Love’s travel centers, they prohibit 18-wheelers on their lots, making access more seamless for cars.

There are currently three Buc-ee’s locations in Georgia. One in Brunswick opened this year. A store in Calhoun opened in 2021. One in Warner Robins opened in 2020. A fourth Buc-ee’s is expected to open along I-75 just north of Macon in March 2027.

The stores are known for clean, spacious restrooms. But outside of the bathroom facilities, stores don’t offer much in the way of seating. The aim is to keep customers flowing.

Buc-ee’s stores stock a seemingly endless selection of snacks and food. They offer store-made fudge, freshly cooked tortillas on a conveyor, brisket sandwiches and have jerky bars.

The stores’ phone numbers are unlisted. According to the Buc-ee’s website, “We previously had phones in the stores which were answered by the cashiers. When cashiers were on the phone instead of waiting on customers, this made the customers angry, so we thought it would be better to direct comments to the website.”
