Authorities have arrested a 16-year-old accused of fatally shooting a Clayton County man during an argument in the front yard of a Griffin home.

Malik Yarbrough was taken into custody Tuesday, hours after police identified him as a suspect in the slaying of 46-year-old Robert Brown, authorities said. The Clayton County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the arrest.

Brown was found shot to death shortly after midnight Tuesday in the 200 block of Melrose Avenue, AJC.com previously reported.

“Investigators conducted numerous interviews and executed several search warrants,” Griffin police spokesman Lt. Daniel Jett said. “Based on the information obtained, it was determined that Brown and multiple people on scene had a dispute.”

Yarbrough, who has been charged as an adult in the case, faces one count each of felony murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. He remains held at the Griffin Regional Youth Detention Center.

The homicide investigation is ongoing, and additional charges are expected, authorities said.
