Take to Task

Patrick McBurnette has a point in question with a traffic light.
“The signal light at the intersection of West Paces Ferry Road and Rilman Road is responsible for traffic backups in the morning all the way back to Northside Drive. It freezes traffic on West Paces for quite a while for zero or just a couple of cars emerging from Rilman,” McBurnette wrote.
He also said the left turn signal from West Paces westbound onto Rilman operates even though there are no vehicles in that turn lane.
“If that light handles a lot of West Paces traffic, at some times, the light should be smart enough to do so only when the traffic justifies,” McBurnette added.
We sent the issue to the city.

LeyAnna Messick has issues with an access road.
“I live in the area of Henderson Mill Road and often travel the access road to Chamblee Tucker and Mercer University Drive. I have two areas of concern in this area.
The first is that there is no “one-way’ sign when you approach the access road north to Chamblee Tucker from Woodcock Boulevard. Every other entrance to the access road has one,” she wrote.
Messick said the other issue has to do with lane divider bumps.
“When you exit the north access road onto Chamblee-Tucker Road, you can either take the right lane only to Flowers Road South or the second right lane to Mercer University Drive which gives you the option to go straight or turn right on Flowers Road South. The Flowers Road exit lane had traffic bumps in place to prevent cars from exiting into the Mercer University lane, but as you can see these bumps have been damaged and no longer do their job,” she wrote.
Messick said cars take the Flowers Road exit to avoid the light at Chamblee Tucker and then cross over the right turn lane to Flowers Road to get to the straight lane to proceed on Mercer University.
“This is very dangerous as I have almost been hit and have seen other cars narrowly avoid a collision at this spot. I’d like to see the traffic bumps replaced with traffic bollards to keep cars in the Flowers Road South lane so that drivers at this intersection remain safe,” she added.
