Vincent wins McDonough mayoral race

Longtime McDonough City Council member Sandra Vincent won the race for mayor in that city. Vote totals from the Nov. 2 election showed Vincent capturing more than half the votes in a three-person race, with former council member Craig Elrod finishing second ahead of Tony Brown. Incumbent Rufus Stewart defeated Toneen Brown in District 1 council race, while Jamal Burt was unopposed in District 2 to take Vincent’s former seat. Vanessa Thomas defeated incumbent Roger Pruitt as well as Darryl Payon in an at-large race, while Scott Reeves won a special election against three challengers for Elrod’s seat. Voter turnout in the city was 21 percent of registered voters.
