The Duluth Public Art Commission is seeking proposals for the Rogers Bridge public art project.

The Duluth City Council recently approved the arts commission’s plan to seek a qualified artist to re-purpose salvaged steel from the original bridge and reimagine it into a public art project that “will preserve the significance and history in a unique and interesting way, and accompany a newly re-designed Rogers Bridge Park.”

In October, Duluth’s historic Rogers Bridge was removed to make way for a new pedestrian bridge connecting to Johns Creek. The 110-year-old bridge, which spanned the Chattahoochee River at Rogers Bridge Park, was almost 230-feet long, and weighed more than 50 tons.

The Rogers Bridge Park Master Plan includes an art installation area between the traffic roundabout and the entrance path to the new bridge. Artists will be asked to design artwork to fit within this space.

Deadline for proposals is 2 p.m. Jan. 14. Proposal details: www.duluthga.net/community/call-to-artists/index.php.
