Peachtree City is giving its employees a 5.2% cost-of-living raise, effective Oct. 25. All sworn and certified staff in the police and fire departments will receive an additional $1,500 annual increase. The measure was approved 5-0 by the City Council at the Oct. 7 meeting.

Ellece Brown, director of human resources and risk management, said the last such raise was implemented in 2014, following a pay and classification study to determine whether the city was being competitive in its hiring. City Manager Jon Rorie said the city wants to remain “an employer of choice” for job candidates.

The overall budget impact for the revised pay structure will be $719,253 this year. The new starting salary for certified police officers and firefighter/EMTs will be $47,809; certified firefighter/paramedics will start at $52,280. Fire Chief Joe O’Conor and Police Chief Janet Moon told the council that recent incentives have significantly improved the recruitment of officers.
