A Marietta eyewear manufacturer is expanding and that could mean a handful of new jobs in Cobb County.

The McGee Group repurposed a 16,000-square-foot commercial building at 490 Commerce Park Drive SE and turned it into the company’s new manufacturing warehouse.

The McGee Group is a family owned company based in Marietta that designs, manufactures and distributes prescription eyeglasses, readers, optical frames and sunglasses.

The independent wholesaler makes shades and frames out of its headquarters at 510 Commerce Park Drive SE. They are in the process of completing the move to the new workshop next door. Company officials said they plan to hire eight to 10 people to work in the new warehouse.

The McGee Group received no tax incentives for the move, according to a company spokesperson.

The McGee Group announced the shift in a news release this week, saying its part of a strategy to vertically integrate its production process.

In June, the McGee Group bought a complete lineup of automated machinery from Los Angeles. That equipment has already been shipped to the new facility, which is in early stages of operation.

“We are an American eyewear company based in the South, making products for predominantly the American market, and all of our brands are American brands,” said Matthew McGee, the company’s executive vice president. “Our plan has always been to complete the circle by making product in the U.S.”
