A residential subdivision on nearly 30 acres was rezoned on Dec. 6 by the Austell City Council.

Epic Homes was the applicant for the rezoning from Rural Residential and Light Industrial to Planned Use Development - Residential on undeveloped land at the southwest intersection of Old Westside Road at Braswell Circle.

The community will be comprised of 97 single-family detached residential houses - a reduction from the 132 houses proposed in November, according to Christine Dobbs, assistant director of the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission.

These two-story houses will have craftsman elements and carriage-style garage doors to enhance surrounding property values.

Also, of the nearly 30 acres, about 14 acres will be preserved as open space.

This development is in keeping with the city’s long-term revitalization goals, including a proposed multi-use trail along Austell Powder Springs Road from downtown Austell to the Silver Comet Trail in Powder Springs.
